What started in 2013 as a handful of good friends working out in a garage gym to now, Portishead's first fully equipped CrossFit affiliated Box. Boasting a 2500sq feet training facility, including a 24ft Rogue rig and a variety of barbells, bumper plates, kettlebells and much more from leading equipment suppliers.

Make no mistake, this is a tough regime designed to test and push your body to achieve amazing results...whilst making new friends in the process! In order to do that, you require the best trainers.

Ultimately CrossFit at its core is a fitness program, but it's also a community! The unique culture we have at CrossFit MPG is that we can foster the feeling of fellowship - that sense of uniting around a common interest or goal... and that is the foundation of our community!

I have always had a real passion for sport & fitness and subsequently it has played a huge role in my life. My sporting interests include football (previously played Somerset County & Bristol Premier standard), surfing, skiing and a keen cyclist. In recent years I have competed in various endurance events including Ironman, London Marathon and local half marathons.

I qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2010 and since then have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in 1-1 training of all ages ,from younger teenage athletes through to much older generations. I continue to support clients with weight loss goals, rehabilitation, sports specific training, disabilities and medical conditions.

This experience has proved invaluable in transferring these skills to coaching CrossFit and helping to identify specific needs and requirements to each individual member at CrossFit MPG.

I first discovered CrossFit after searching for different ways and methods to train both myself and my clients. My first WOD (workout of the day) was Fran (an infamous CrossFit WOD). 10 minutes later I finally finished, completely exhausted and wondering what had hit me!!! I was hooked. That was 5 years ago and I haven't looked back since. I qualified as a CrossFit Level 1 trainer back in 2013 and then as a Level 2 trainer in 2018. I love every aspect of my job, from the variety of each workout and how it can be scaled for any ability, to the community it brings with it - it has truly changed my life!

Qualifications - CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, Level 3 Advanced Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist, Level 2 Gym Instructor, Circuit/Boot Camp Instructor, Gym Based Boxing Instructor, Sports Rehabilitation, Weight Loss Nutrition, Sports Specific Nutrition.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always had a huge passion for sport. It goes without saying throughout my school years hockey, tennis and netball took precedence over anything vaguely academic!  It was however hockey that I went on to play regularly, and still manage play to this day. To try and stay fit in the past, I have also enjoyed running, having taken part in a number of half marathons and am particularly proud to have completed the London Marathon in 2011.

In 2013 I was introduced to CrossFit.  I was instantly hooked as the level of exercise in a competitive and team environment replaced the monotony and loneliness of running – I can honestly say I think I enjoy and look forward to even the toughest days at CrossFit!!!!

In 2018 I was offered the opportunity to join the coaching team at MPG.  The enjoyment and satisfaction I get from coaching is way beyond anything I could have imagined and taken my love of CrossFit to a whole new level. Finding time for all of this is very much easier said than done whilst juggling the needs of a growing, demanding and busy family life – a husband, two boys and a dog keep me busy during the brief periods I’m not at MPG!!!!

I’m excited for the future of MPG and privileged to be a part of it – coaching, socialising, competing with and against members new and old gives me a real buzz and a feeling I find hard to replicate in any other fitness category.  Helping others achieve the previously unthinkable is genuinely amazing to be part of.

After undergoing a back operation in 2006, CrossFit has helped my own recovery and I am now fitter and stronger than ever. I try and enter a few ‘master’ individual and team competitions each year as they are great fun and a good way to challenge yourself away from the comfort of our box.

I love the fact that CrossFit is open to all ages and all fitness levels and really is all inclusive. For me it is so much different than just going to the gym.

I passed my CrossFit Level 1 in September 2018 and love sharing my experience and knowledge with the members to help them with their individual goals whilst having a smile on their face.

I was an avid attendee of generic fitness classes for 10 years until I found CrossFit four and a half years ago and has never looked back! I have been an L3 personal trainer and PN1 nutrition coach at MPG since late 2017, passing my CF L1 in 2019.

I really love helping others to believe in themselves and achieve things they never thought they would. The community aspect of Crossfit is absolutely incredible - the support you receive from the CF community in general and also specifically at MPG from the coaches but also from the other members is epic - we have so much fun and everyone is so encouraging and friendly. I am not really that competitive and understand that for maybe 70% of our members, competing is not on their radar, they just want to get fit and have fun and that is what we are here for - to support everyone on their own journey and make their workout the best part of their day!

As well as CrossFit, I love yoga and meditation and helping others achieve mental wellness alongside physical fitness. I spend lots of time outdoors exploring with my dog and teach at a fitness retreat in Portugal several times a year. I have recently qualified as a Pre- & Postnatal Coach.

Qualifications - CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Level 3 Advanced Personal Trainer, Level 2 Gym Instructor, Precision Nutrition PN1, GGS Pre- and PostNatal Coach.

Fantastic experience: We joined Crossfit MPG just over three months ago now and are loving it. Super friendly box with great coaches, excellent programming and decent amount of kit. Would highly recommend and worth the short drive over from Bristol.

Fantastic experience: I've been coming here two or three times a week for eight years now and for too many reasons to list, but the bottom line is that Crossfit MPG efficiently and effectively provides a base level of fitness like nothing else I've ever done. All I have to do is show up for the classes and I carry a consistent level of physical health into my every day life and the other activities I like to do (but can't always fit in so easily). The key reason I show up week-in/week-out however, is the people: Great friends full of camaraderie & encouragement (we all help each other along) + a group of coaches who know my strengths and weaknesses better than I know myself. A very positive place to be and a very positive thing to do. Give it a go.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality Love being a member of CrossFit MPG. I discovered CrossFit in my 40’s and have really enjoyed discovering strength training and the varied WODs. However for me the best bit is MPGs fabulous supportive community and experienced coaches that support everyone’s goals! MPG rocks!!!!!

Fantastic experience: The only CrossFit box I’ve been to but certainly the best. All coaches are so welcoming as are the other members there! They cater for everyone, I went in with no experience what so ever and all the coaches will help you individually while in your workouts. I couldn’t be any happier here :)

Fantastic experience: CrossFit MPG is my sixth box having moved house and work over the years. I knew from my first WOD with MPG that the coaching and community here were special, and that I would stay a member for a long time. It is a small and friendly box, which means everyone knows and supports each-other, and there is plenty of one on one time with the coaches. Despite the small size, the coaching is of extremely high standard and personalised to your needs. The coaches take great pride and enjoyment in helping your progression over time, and it means you look forward to every workout. The great coaches and friends that you make means that CrossFit mpg is a great gym for beginners and experienced alike.

Fantastic experience: I joined MPG after lockdown when looking for a new box. Both the coaches and current members were so welcoming to each new person that had joined. Very quickly I felt like a valued member of the community. Since being at MPG I have become pregnant and had my baby. All coaches supported me throughout training at each stage of pregnancy and postpartum, keeping me involved with classes whilst amending the workouts to suit my needs. Now I have my little boy I am able to take him along to classes with me where he constantly has smiley, sweaty and wonderful people greeting and playing with him whilst I train. The community have become his second family and for that I am ever grateful. Thanks always to Gem, Matt, Kim, Cookie and Nixxy ❤️

Fantastic experience: My husband and I moved to Portishead in January 2021 in the middle of a lockdown so it was a huge relief when the gyms were allowed to re-open in May and we joined this box. CrossFit MPG not only is a great place to train in a supportive environment and under the expert guidance of experienced and passionate coaches, but it also has a very strong sense of community and we felt welcome here immediately. In fact, we loved being a part of MPG so much that we bought a house just across the road from the box so we can spend all of our free time here Whether you are looking to get fitter/stronger physically or you want to become more resilient and feel confidence and a sense of achievement in your life, MPG is a great place for it!

Fantastic experience: Love this box! I am new to CrossFit and have been a member at CrossFit MPG since April 2021. The workouts are constantly varied and can be scaled to suit all abilities. I have progressed so much since joining and this is certainly thanks to the coaching and the inclusive and supportive environment. There is a real sense of community with social events outside of classed including summer BBQ, Football Euros, Christmas Party, etc. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Having recently joined the box, I can highly recommend CrossFit MPG. The team have made it very easy to settle in and provide you everything that you need. There is a great family feel to the box, everyone looks out for each other and you don't feel lost, or that you can't ask for help like you would in a big enterprise.

Fantastic experience: Been a member a year now and it's a great gym and community. Friendly coaches and atmosphere, easy to get started and really developed my fitness. Best thing for me is getting great technical coaching on some of the more challenging skills (like gymnastic movements!)

Fantastic experience: I joined Crossfit MPG six months ago albeit with an air of trepidation. However, the welcoming, friendly and encouraging atmosphere soon put me at ease and I can honestly say there has been no looking back. The informative and proactive nature of owner/coach Matt Gigg and the other coaches has helped me to make leaps and bounds in my strength and all round fitness. The sessions are varied and suit all ages and abilities. I would definitely recommend Crossfit MPG whether you are looking to get fit or improve your current fitness.
