PureGym Southampton Bitterne

Fantastic experience: This is a good gym, one of the better gyms that i've been a member of and for the money absolutely fantastic. I train here about 3/4 times a week and have been since August 2012. It does get busy at peak times (mid week evenings 6-9pm) but there's a good mix of fixed weight machines, free weights, bar bells and kettle bells so if you can't get on the Olympic bars then there's plenty of alternatives. There's a huge amount of cardio machines as well as power plates, TRX and Spin bikes as well. There are NO queues for anything if you go before 9am (I train mornings as well as evenings). The instructors are really helpful (all highly trained and certainly not kids as suggested by another reviewer), I've been working with a PT for a few months and it's made a huge difference, the other trainers are all happy to give me advice if I'm not doing something properly. The Spin and circuits classes are actually pretty decent but you need to be on the ball booking classes because they get booked up quickly. I wouldn't bother with the Zumba classes here, it looks more like the Hokey Cokey than actual exercise (i'm assured not all Zumba classes are created equal, apparently they can be quite good in some places - not here from what i've seen)

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this gym 3 times a week for just over a year now. I love it! It's modern, clean and well equiped. I've just signed up for a couple of classes and i'm hoping it will be as much fun as using the gym itself.

Fantastic experience: Went there for the first time with my daughter, not that she needs to go at all , oh the joys of being young ,. So was really thinking i am going to be the oldest one here aswell as my body disorders i have , but i felt fine lots of ages no funny looks felt fine , got lots of equipment and a studio for classes the app is great got everything covered , so guys i am going back and hopefully get back in shape

Fantastic experience: Very safely setup and still plenty of kit to use. Cleaning stations throughout and good to have changing rooms and showers available. Other members were considerate, so very happy indeed.

Fantastic experience: A good sized gum with a few different areas. On the gum floor there is a studio area for classes, free weights area with various racks and benches. There are two large rows of treadmills and elliptical machines with various body machines. There is a body weights section upstairs with a spin studio. Their atmosphere is always positive and it never seems to get too busy, even around peak times.

Fantastic experience: Clean with a lot of equipment. Only downside is that the staff could be a bit more strict regarding covid guidelines but I can appreciate the hassle that may cause. Also, the late cleaner does not wear any ppe

Fantastic experience: I wasn't much of a gym fan. Went to puregym and now I love going. All the staff are friendly and very helpful. The classes are suitable for beginners as well as experienced people. I won't go anyway else now! Thank you to all the staff!

Fantastic experience: Had another great session at Bitterne on Sunday. Very quiet so no problems moving amongst the equipment. Lovely and spacious compared to Central.

Fantastic experience: Great gym never short on spaces even at the busiest times there’s equipment to use, and the PureGym app gives access easily with a QR code to enter. Everyone has been friendly as long as I’ve been there, since last October. Big clean changing rooms, clean toilets and lots of shower cubicles. Only thing to note is you need your own padlock for the lockers.

Fantastic experience: A really good gym. I slightly prefer the Southampton Central pure gym as they have recently invested some money into it and it looks great. But this is a really good gym, although there's no natural lighting they have done a good job of lighting the place. Good amount of equipment which are all of a high spec. The changing facilities are very impressive, the best of any pure gym in Southampton. Would recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: Been a member on and off over the past few years. As pretty much a novice. I love all the new changes. The app is great I can finally walk about like I know what I'm doing with the free workout plans. It shows you where the equipment is. How long each rep should be. The breaks you need to take and a built in timer. You can book classes and inductions. Its 24hr.the showers put me off at first but they are great and the on site free hair dryers are great for b4 work sessions or. Just to look a bit more human after being a sweaty mess scaring the locals Haha. Also plenty of charging space. Only two closed changing cubicles but never had a problem getting one. Or use a loo cubicle or shower. It's well laid out. Lockers us paddocks. They have vending machines for locks, towels and food and drinks. Also the flavoured water at extra cost or can add it to ur membership. The studio for classes is hidden away but still integrated in the gym. The weights area is big enough to not feel crowded. The app gives a figure of how many are at the gym. The most I have seen is 95 and there were still plenty of equipment to use without waiting. I have the key fob entry. Definitely recommend any reason to make getting me in is a bonus. After the stairs up to the gym to save me leaving the better! There is a lift and accessible entrance. Staff are never far to flag down if the entrance misbehaves. It's a one in one out type pod. Free drinking water. Good mix of exercises and varied classes. Very clear on the walls who the staff are and what they do. TV screens show music vids and gym offers. A large digital clock by the studio that can be seen from most areas. I'm not addicted but I'm definitely converted to gym life feel more confident going here now :) oh and the fans on the machines are a plus could do with stronger ones though. And a cleaning station for those who forget towels or leave stuff sweaty. :)

Fantastic experience: Instructors here are very friendly, the classes are brilliant and the facilities are pretty good. Never gets over busy, there's also a sainsbury next door so can pick up dinner after a work out.

Fantastic experience: Good gym, good value. Open 24/7. I mainly do barbell lifts; there's one olympic rack, three power racks and a bench for press. You often have to a wait a bit for the bench, but you can normally get straight on a power rack. There's also lots of other free weights and machines.
