Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre

Fantastic experience: I am writing this review whilst partially suspended up this new leisure centre's new climbing wall. I am getting a few looks but its ok, I have at least 5 minutes to write this review before they can climb up and catch me. Anyway here it goes..... Wow - what a refurbishment. Having been rebuilt from the ground up and reopened in November 2012 this new local centre just oozes class. VERY Strangely for a local council created building in the UK it also oozes amazing facilities, clean changing rooms, family friendliness, cutting edge technology and what really floored me was the super friendly staff. ( Still hanging on to the climbing wall) The toilets are clean and don't ooze at all- but smell quite lovely. In terms of facilities this has to be more than any other centre in London. Superb pools ( 3 of them ) 1 for toddlers complete with cartoonish installations to play with, 1 for children and another larger. Soft play area and gym complete this great place. It even has a lovely cafe complete with newspapers to relax afterwards and tonnes of parking! By the way it also has 3 climbing walls one for kids and one who has a guy at the bottom who is currently shouting for me to stop using my phone on the wall and making his way up. Pressing publish!

Fantastic experience: Very impressive, booking my activity was easy and upon arrival the service was excellent. We went swimming and the changing rooms are clean and well spaced put and the pool itself is very nice, lifeguards made sure my 8 year old could swim properly before allowing him on the inflatable and its the attention to detail regarding safety that I though was really nice, seems this centre has plenty to offer....its inspired me to look a little deeper into the activities they run and possibly take up a sport. The climbing wall offers something extra shich we will definitely be having a go at.

Fantastic experience: First time here and I really enjoyed it. Frindly reception, great changing rooms, the Learner pool (and the small one for babies) was clean and not crowded. My 9mo baby loved the whole experience. We will certainly come back!

Positive experience: Great leisure centre with large gym area, various sports activies, classes, hot yoga, spa, 10-lane swimming pool, café, ample parking, right by the Verulamium Park. I haven't tried the spa or hot yoga as they are not included in the gym membership, however the swimming pool and gym equipment are up to spec. I have signed up for PT sessions for the first time ever (and I have been to many gyms) as Olivia is a fantastic PT who tailors each session to target my focus areas in different, diverse ways (I get bored doing the same exercises again and again). The gym is also really understanding and flexible (admin can take a bit of time but always sorted!) and have been fantastic during Covid providing online options to keep fit.

Fantastic experience: Great experience taking my 2 month old swimming here, for the first time. The pool was clean, the staff were super friendly and booking via the app was seamless.

Fantastic experience: Great flagship everyone active centre. Nice healthy cafe, clean toilet facilities, banh splash pool with slide, family pool and main pool. Climbing wall classes, spa and beauticians, hot yoga room high quality range of les mills classes. Teachers are fab. Sam’s combat and spin are fantastic. You definitely know you’ve had a workout! One downside is that the cafe closes at four it would be nice for parents with children doing swimming lessons after school if they could get dinner together. Hopefully this will change as things open up more.

Fantastic experience: I'm really enjoying being back in the pool. It's about the only type of exercise I can manage at the moment, having seized up majorly over lockdown. The set up is excellent, prebooked lanes. Although people need to be realistic about their swim pace & considerate to others sharing the lane. Staff are fantastic & very professional and attentive in these strange Covid times. Enjoyable & great to regain flexibility, stamina is more of a longterm goal.

Fantastic experience: I’m a gym and class goer at Westminster Lodge and I love it. The staff are awesome, the facilities are great and I’ll be missing it over the coming weeks. I’d also like to give a shout out to the crèche ladies who are kind, calm and I’ve always felt totally confident in leaving my little boy in their care x

Fantastic experience: Superb swimming facility, it also has indoor climbing and a gym. Plenty of parking available.

Fantastic experience: Very good for a public gym on a level with most private gyms if not better. Only downside is the service in the cafe very slow and often huge queues. They need to work out a better way to serve, as the actual waiting time for food once order is pretty efficient. Great facilities gym and swim wise.

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities in good location. Starting point for runs and rides as well as on site pool, climbing wall and gym etc.

Fantastic experience: Nice, clean and friendly. Adult pools are good and not too busy. Kids pools need to be booked in advance on the weekend unless you are prepared to wait an hour or two.

Fantastic experience: Relaxing but the spa is quite small, should it be full there would not be enough chairs, beds and seating for lunch. Massage was superb though, recommend the deep tissue massage.

Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre. Nice swimming pool but the most important thing... water temperature is 28°C which is actually pleasant to get in. Decent size gym. Good classes choice and lots of other things to do in offer. There's shop as well to buy swimming costume etc. And cafe with good food and prices. Nice climbing wall.

Fantastic experience: Great place to go for kids. Its fantastic they give time slots for the confidence pool ensuring it is not over crowded. Confidence pool is also kept at a great temperature - would recommend

Fantastic experience: Loads to do for the kids. Soft play, swimming, climbing walls and much more. We attended a birthday party here and the staff were lovely. Worth noting it's pay and display parking although the first 2 hours are free

Fantastic experience: 5 star rating to stage one swimming teacher Tracy Hay. We had few teachers until 8 months ago however since we came across Tracy my daughter Natalia is actually enjoying swimming and progress is unbelievable! There is not many people around who put so much heart and effort to their work but Tracy is the one! Really top marks for approach, good heart, professionalism, and loads of effort put in to teaching every single time....!

Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool climbing wall and other stuff. Pool great for little ones with a warm paddling pool. Good cafeteria with good coffee and food.

Fantastic experience: Nice leisure centre, climbing area run by qualified staff. Lovely pool and small play area. There are lots of classes and activities. There is a child friendly pool and an inflatable session.

Fantastic experience: Large leisure centre with amongst others rock climbing and a big restaurant and outdoor seating. They cater for kids parties. Lovely setting, also near a train station.

Fantastic experience: Just took my 1 year old for a swim and what a lovely place to go. Changing rooms couldn't have been nicer. Went in an enormous family change with playpen and changing shelf thing. Showers and even hair dryers were geared up for whatever height you may be. Pool was such fun, we could have stayed there for hours. The soft play looks good and also the crèche is right by reception with glass windows which I liked. Will definitely be returning soon! Cafe was also well equipped and everywhere is spotless . I'm annex competitive swimmer so have been to a few pools in my time and I can't think of any in this country that beat it for families anyway. Well done!

Fantastic experience: Excellent new leisure centre, built a few years ago to replace a rather tired swimming pool. Has a large pool, gym, and a gymnasium that is used for a wide range of activities. The climbing wall is great. There's also a spa. There is a lot of parking, and it's free for two hours, but it can get busy. The café is OK - acceptable coffee, acceptable food, and not that comfortable. Nice in summer when they can open the doors though. The location on the edge of Verulamium Park is great. If you live in St Albans and have kids, you'll be here a lot!

Fantastic experience: Has a gym, spa, indoor hall can be used for many different sports, swimming, rock climbing, spin classes, hot/normal yoga and many other studios available.

Fantastic experience: Love this place. The best yoga instructor. Matt Gluck. Also clean, modern and very friendly staff. I'm grateful we have such a fab public leisure centre. Beats Nuffield hands down!

Fantastic experience: I love it because it is the only swimming pool that I have been to that has lots of activities to do and have a clean swimming pool. The best there is!!!
