The centre is home to an award winning gym with fantastic weight lifting equipment, aerobics studio with weekly programme of classes for adults and kids, an indoor 5-a-side pitch and dedicated spin studio. We also offer a free creche for members.
We are having 16 new air conditioning units installed at Life Leisure Grand Central which will cause some disruption to the gym areas. Please view all details here.
The large fitness suite at Houldsworth Village is spread across two floors and offers a wide range of cardio and resistance equipment, plenty of free weights and a specialist Olympic weightlifting area.
Our classes are hosted by amazing instructors who only want one thing... To give you the best workout possible. All levels of ability are welcome with adaptations for exercises given. Whether you're a beginner, or more advanced, there's something for everyone!
Grab some friends and come for a kickabout on our indoor football pitch where you can enjoy a game even in the middle of winter! The quickest and easiest way to book is online or via the Life Leisure app. If you are not a member, you must register as a Standard Online Bookings member to book.
Our sports hall is available for badminton bookings so grab some friends and come on down for a game! Due to the popularity of badminton at our centres and limited number of courts available the quickest and easiest way to book is online. If you are not a member, you must register as a Standard Online Bookings Member to book. Weekly and block bookings are also available.
All Life Leisure memberships include a free Inspire programme. As part of the programme you will undergo a precise body composition assessment (Boditrax) to help track where you currently are. This will provide you with your key measurements such as fat mass, muscle mass, base metabolic rate, bone mass and more. These measurements are then used to set your personal goals and will help in tracking your progress to achieve these.
Carers and Support Workers can access the facility FREE of charge to accompany an individual to the gym or pool at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village. A Leisure Key Companion/ Carer card is required to set up a casual companion account to enable bookings.
If you require any assistance or guidance on how to use the equipment and make the reasonable adjustments, please don't hesitate to ask a member of the fitness team who would be happy to help.
Stockport Arnies Powerlifting Club is an established Accessible Powerlifting Club, affiliated to BWL, based at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village. The club is one of only a few Paralympic Clubs in the North West and provides opportunities for anyone who has a disability who wants to take part in the sport to continue as a member of a local club.
Some families or individuals may be eligible for a Leisure Key which is delivered by Stockport Council. This provides discount to swimming and other activities across Life Leisure. In addition, if you are eligible for a Leisure Key Companion/Carer card, you will be able to access the activity for free accompanying an individual to a session. The following steps need to be taken to access this:
Use of Studio classes at Houldsworth Village, Grand Central, Stockport Sports Village, Avondale and Priestnall at all available times. Minimum 6 month term obligation.
Use of the gyms, swimming* and studio classes at Avondale*,Brinnington Park, Grand Central*, Houldsworth Village and Stockport Sports Village at all available locations/times. A minimum 6 month direct debit membership applies.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality Attended the centre yesterday to have a look around and a taster session. Both of the ladies on reception were wonderful and welcoming! The gym has some great equipment including Hammer Strength/Nautilus as well as great range of cardio. Also, you can get swimming and activity packages too for a great price!!!
Fantastic experience: This place has completely transformed my opinion/dislike of gyms. The staff are absolutely fab, all really great down to earth people who motivate you to do better, care about you more than just £££ and help above and beyond their remit. I've been made to feel so comfortable in the gym and weights area, with coaches encouraging us to take up space and that all levels have the same right to be there. Special shout out to Harry, Hannah, Joe and Kingsley for being great on the Weights 4 Women classes. But also the reception, cleaning and admin staff are amazing too. Please restock your vending machines though

I attended a 5 hour Combatothon to raise money for Mental health charity mind. It was a special day to be apart of with friends and life Leisure staff who invest in people.

Fantastic experience: Just started back after lockdown enforced closure, the gym / cardio area has been extended into the 5 aside pitch, so far more room between machines, lots of staff on hand cleaning constantly, lots of paper towels and sanitiser available, it's a great gym and so pleased it's back open

Fantastic experience: A fantastic gym, with friendly, knowledgeable staff, right from reception through to the coaches who gentle push you to achieve your own personal best. My confidence has soared since joining this gym and I have made friendships that'll last a long time. Also, as someone who has high functioning autism, I'm very aware of the fact that Holdsworth village caters to all types of disabilities, as well as able bodied people. Thumbs up from me.
